Succeed in College

Take Charge of Your Academic Success

Successful college students admit when they are struggling in their classes, and seek help before it affects their grades. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are having trouble in a class. The first person you should talk to if you are having trouble is your professor, they may be able to suggest ways for you to improve your grades or study differently. Most colleges also have an office called “Academic Support,” or something similar. You can contact this office to ask about tutoring services or for advice on study skills.

There is also a website, Khan Academy that offers free lessons and practice questions on a wide variety of subjects, from biology, to history, to finances. This site is a good resource for learning and practicing on your own, and a good way to find new subjects you may be interested in.

Free Computer Centers

Computer and internet access is very important for applying to college, and for succeeding once you are enrolled. If you need to use a computer for homework, college applications, or anything else, you can visit one of Philadelphia’s new computer centers.

These centers offer free computer and internet access, as well as free classes to help you brush up on your computer skills. Centers are still in the process of opening, if there is not yet a center near you check back in a couple months to see if new centers have opened.
