$500 Scholarship For College-Bound Students

Rising Sons has partnered with the Jeffrey W. Harris Foundation to provide a small annual scholarship to one aspiring college-bound student.
The Jeffrey W. Harris Foundation was founded in memory of the late Jeffrey Willie Harris. Jeff Harris was the director of youth engagement programs such as GearUp and the Milken Young Entrepreneurs Program at the Wharton School of Business at UPenn. He pursued our missionbefore Rising Sons even came to be, inspiring and mentoring young people, preparing them for personal and professional success. This scholarship was founded to accompany his legacy, and continue his mission of empowering youth in pursuit of their entrepreneurial goals.
All high school seniors who plan to begin post-secondary studies at an accredited college or trade/professional school and returning college students with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent) are eligible for this scholarship.
The biggest requirement for the application is a pair of short essays (400 and 300 words). You must also provide two references and a recent (unofficial) academic transcript. Applicants who will have trouble obtaining references or a transcript can email jwh@risingsons.org, or call (215) 798-0066.

Alright everyone, get excited. Upward Bound and Philadelphia Academies just published a list of college-based summer programs. There are some pretty awesome programs listed and many of them are really affordable or offer scholarships.
Summer time is a critical time to engage your youth in fun, academic enrichment programs. Three months of mental inactivity can set a student back months in their academic achievement. Close the summer gap by sending your child or student to a summer program.

Internship for College Students at The Philadelphia Youth Network, Inc.

A nationally recognized leader in youth workforce development, the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) is a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for collective action by developing and delivering models that change systems and improve educational and economic outcomes for youth. Their vision is that all of Philadelphia’s young people will take their rightful places as full and contributing members of a global economy.
They are hiring an External Relations Intern who will be reporting to the Vice President of External Relations. The opportunity is open to college students in their junior or senior year.

Peirce College Mayor’s Scholarship for City of Philadelphia Residents and Employees

Peirce is offering two full tuition scholarships: one for a City employee and one for a resident of the City. Each scholarship recipient will receive full tuition and fees for up to ten classes per academic year for a total of 40 three credit courses plus the required orientation class. The scholarship may be used for any Peirce College classes, either at the Center City campus or for classes held online. Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the following web page:

The deadline for the contest is quickly approaching: all scholarship contest materials must be turned in to Peirce no later than Tuesday May 1. For more information about Peirce College and the scholarship, information sessions will be held from 5 – 6:30pm at the following locations:

The PhillyGoes2College office, an initiative of the Mayor’s Office of Education, is working hard to help Philadelphia residents of any age go to college.

What we do:
We visit Philadelphia schools to talk about the college-going process, conduct college and scholarship essay workshops to help residents with their applications, and share the latest scholarship and free college access information on our website and Facebook page. We also host some pretty awesome events throughout the year to get people interested in going to college (and there is usually free food – oh yes, get excited!).

During Philadelphia’s Spring Break, PhillyGoes2College and city-wide partners, host a week-long series of college access workshops and fun events. Mural Arts Program’s Art Education Workshops start March 19th

The Mural Arts Program’s Art Education Department is now enrolling for the Spring session of A2O: Arts & Arts Outdoors, a new artist Residency program in Recreation Centers across the city. Free workshops for youth ages 10-14 begin the week of March 19th, and Community Workshops for all ages run on Saturdays throughout the session.
